SUMMARY:International Childhood Cancer Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) policy event\, “Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan Implementation for Children and Adolescents: Looking Ahead – What remains to be done to improve access to care\, research and sustainable survivorship programmes”\, will take place as an online policy dialogue on Thursday\, 26 February 2026\, from 15:30 to 17:00 CET. \nHosted by MEP Vlad Voiculescu (Renew\, RO)\, this annual event gathers policymakers\, researchers\, healthcare providers\, and patient advocates to assess progress and shape future EU action on childhood and adolescent cancer. SIOP Europe and CCI Europe will share evidence and perspectives from paediatric oncology professionals\, parents\, and survivors. \nThis year’s edition will showcase the progress made under Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP)\, especially through its Spotlight on Childhood Cancer\, and will also examine how these achievements can be translated into timely and sustainable delivery for children and adolescents up to and after 2030. \nRegister HereProgrammeThe event will support discussions on the European Parliament’s own-initiative report on the EBCP\, currently under preparation. As the EBCP moves into its next implementation phase and future EU cancer policy initiatives are planned beyond 2025\, the event emphasises that childhood cancer must remain a visible priority. Strong political support and practical measures are essential to ensure that all children and young people with cancer in Europe benefit from equally high standards of care\, research\, and survivorship services. \nThe discussion will focus on two core priority areas across the childhood cancer pathway: \n\nEqual access to high-quality care and research\, including access to specialised expertise\, cross-border collaboration\, and innovation for children\, adolescents\, and young adults with cancer\, regardless of where they live in Europe\nSurvivorship and psychosocial care\, with a focus on long-term follow-up care and the sustainability of survivorship programmes for childhood cancer survivors and their families.\n\nBy bringing together policymakers and key stakeholders from across the childhood cancer community and beyond\, the event aims to foster shared understanding and actionable policy directions. The goal is to ensure that progress achieved at EU level through the EBCP translates into lasting\, equitable impact for all children and young people with cancer across Europe. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) 2025 - Policy event
DESCRIPTION:MEP András Kulja (EPP\, Hungary) will host and organize a policy event in anticipation of International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) with the participation of SIOP Europe and CCI Europe . \nThe ICCD is commemorated on 15 February each year. The date of the ICCD event at the European Parliament coincides with World Cancer Day (4 February)\, emphasizing the place of childhood cancer at the heart of cancer policies. \nThe meeting will put the spotlight on the current challenges in cross-border care and research in pediatric oncology\, with a focus on advancing multi-stakeholder collaboration to address systemic inequalities. \nJoin this important discussion on Tuesday\, 4 February\, from 16:00 to 18:00 CET\, at the European Parliament in Brussels . The event will be followed by an exclusive networking reception. \n\n\nRegister Here\nThe event will feature two engaging panel discussions: \nCross-Border Access to Care and Training: \nExplore the barriers children face in accessing specialized oncology care under the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive and discuss practical solutions to bridge these gaps. Learn about the role of EU training initiatives and twinning programs in empowering healthcare professionals and building capacity across Member States. \nCross-Border Access to Research: \nUnderstand the regulatory and logistical obstacles to European clinical trials and innovative treatments\, including CAR T-cell therapy. The discussion will highlight how harmonized frameworks can strengthen collaboration\, reduce disparities\, and advance innovation in pediatric oncology research. \nWhy attend?  \nThis is a unique opportunity to engage and network with EU policymakers\, healthcare professionals\, researchers\, and patient advocates and contribute to meaningful dialogue on how EU’s initiatives\, such as the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive and Beating Cancer Plan\, can ensure equitable access to care and research for children with cancer. \nBackground \nDespite all the advancements in the field\, disparities in access to care and research still exist across Europe\, unjustly affecting young patients’ survival and quality of life. Innovative therapies\, such as CAR T-cell therapy\, remain out of reach for many due to logistical and financial barriers. \nThis event will explore how EU policymakers and healthcare professionals can work together to overcome these challenges and build a future where all children with cancer can access the care and research they need\, regardless of where they live. \nFor queries or further information\, please send an email to: andras.kulja@europarl.europa.eu \, danai.spentzou@europarl.europa.eu \,  sonja.ladenstein@siope.eu \, and rachele.vedovelli@siope.eu . \n\nCheck the Provisional Programme Here
