SUMMARY:Survivor's Week Webinar: Childhood Cancer - Stigma and Communication
DESCRIPTION:Childhood cancer survival rates have been improving globally over recent decades. Researchers in this area highlight\, “Ongoing improvements in survival rates across high-income\, middle-income and low-income countries will result in a rapidly expanding population of survivors with unique health-care needs\, emphasizing the increasing relevance of issues relating to childhood cancer survivors globally.” (Ehrhardt et al. 2023). Young people who have survived cancer are a medically vulnerable population at higher risk for health and psychosocial issues throughout their lifetimes including\, for example\, challenges in mental health\, physical health\, education\, work\, or social integration in their communities. However\, many young people who have survived childhood cancer have meaningful and productive lives with support from family\, community\, and peers. CCI and SIOP offer an annual 2-hour webinar on Childhood Cancer Survivorship to bring together professionals and young people who have been treated for cancer to highlight challenges and successes in this global topic. This year’s theme is Childhood Cancer Stigma and Communication (the language and words we use when speaking about childhood cancer). Join us on June 29\, 2024\, to celebrate cancer survival month (June) and all who have completed treatment worldwide. \nAbout the Speakers: \nYamini Krishnan \nPediatric oncologist\, Head of Paediatric Hematology Oncology and BMT unit at MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute\, Kerala·MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute\, Calicut\, Kerala\, India \n\nHead\, Paediatric Haematology Oncology and BMT unit at the MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute\, Calicut\, Kerala\, India . SUMMARY:Sexuality & Intimacy and Young Cancer Survivors
DESCRIPTION:We all know that cancer can affect all areas of life and simply changes everything. One topic that is just as much a part of this\, but unfortunately is almost never discussed\, is sexuality and intimacy. \nAnd no\, it’s not just cancers of the reproductive organs that change or affect your sex life. The various cancer therapies can have an impact on the intimate and relationship life of those affected and confront couples with major challenges. Everyday life and intimate life are turned upside down by stressful therapies\, but also by their (long term) consequences. This leads to insecurities among those affected with regard to their sexual attractiveness and sexuality. \nSexuality is generally a taboo subject in society and often neglected in cancer treatment. People often find it difficult to address issues of sexual health\, even though it plays an important role in our emotional relationships and well-being. As a result\, sexuality is still a neglected topic in cancer treatment\, and the impact of the disease on sexuality is pushed to the background in favor of therapeutic efficiency. \nSex life can change temporarily or forever! But that doesn’t mean that childhood\, adolescent and young adult cancer survivors can’t have a fulfilling sex life or a good relationship with their own bodies. \nIn our webinar “Sexuality & Intimacy and Young Cancer Survivors” we want to address all these topics without taboos and exchange ideas with Health Care Professionals\, but also within the survivors community and prove ourselves once again: We are never alone with our topics! \nregister here

SUMMARY:Gold September - Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Event 2024
DESCRIPTION:CCI-E and SIOPE representing childhood cancer patients\, parents\, survivors and healthcare professionals\, will once again mark the Gold September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month campaign through the annual flagship policy event on Tuesday\, 24 September 2024 at 2 pm CEST that this year will be held online. \n\nThis year’s event aims at increasing awareness of our policy priorities for the 2024-2029 mandate.  We will seek support from the new elected members of the European Parliament to our joint manifesto: we need to cure more\, cure better and tackle inequalities in childhood cancer across Europe. Whether we talk about research\, care\, psychosocial support or survivorship follow-up care\, we still have many challenges to address and count on policymakers to legislate\, adopt a friendly Multiannual Financial Framework Agreement (2028-2034) for health and research\, and maintain childhood cancer at the spotlight of the EU agenda!\n\nThe event will be kindly hosted by MEP Loucas Fourlas (EPP\, Cyprus). To register\, please complete the online form below.*\nPlease note that a confirmation email will be sent ahead of the event.\n\n*This information is collected solely for registration purposes and all data will be treated as confidential \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:EU4Health Conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be a partner of a very special event this year! \nThe EU4Health Integration and Impact Initiative (EU4H3I) aims to address public health challenges such as health inequalities\, unequal access to treatments and lack of diversity in clinical trials. Together with our partners\, we advocate for interdisciplinary collaboration and the adoption of a holistic\, cross-sectoral approach supported by the One Health perspective to support the development of the European Health Union. \nWe are very pleased to represent the field of childhood cancer alongside key representatives of the One Health approach and brain health in this project. These three areas are closely intertwined and form a complex set of interconnected issues.Childhood cancer not only affects the physical health of young patients during and after treatment\, but also has a profound impact on the cognitive\, emotional\, behavioral and social abilities of affected children and the rest of their lives as well as their families and friends. The One Health approach\, which recognizes the interdependence of human health\, animal health and the environment\, plays a central role in understanding the complexity of this challenge. It recognizes that environmental factors can contribute to the development of childhood cancer\, underlining the need for a comprehensive view. \nThis event will bring together key stakeholders to discuss health inequalities\, access to treatment\, the diversity of clinical trials and urgent needs in the areas of childhood cancer and brain health. The aim is to promote a holistic One Health approach to tackling these challenges. \nWe think it’s important to look at the issue of childhood\, adolescent and young adult cancer not only in isolation but also in relation to other issues\, such as the environment\, in order to better recognize connections and thus be able to advocate even better! \nWhy attend?\n• Network with leading experts and decision-makers from across Europe\n• Learn from distinguished experts\n• Explore innovative solutions to pressing public health challenges\n• As a patient\, advocate for your health and empower yourself with knowledge \nJoin us on December 2\, 2024\, at the Palace of the Academies in Brussels! \nSince the places are limited\, we invite you to secure your participation in this event from now on. SUMMARY:International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) 2025 - Policy event
DESCRIPTION:MEP András Kulja (EPP\, Hungary) will host and organize a policy event in anticipation of International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) with the participation of SIOP Europe and CCI Europe . \nThe ICCD is commemorated on 15 February each year. The date of the ICCD event at the European Parliament coincides with World Cancer Day (4 February)\, emphasizing the place of childhood cancer at the heart of cancer policies. \nThe meeting will put the spotlight on the current challenges in cross-border care and research in pediatric oncology\, with a focus on advancing multi-stakeholder collaboration to address systemic inequalities. \nJoin this important discussion on Tuesday\, 4 February\, from 16:00 to 18:00 CET\, at the European Parliament in Brussels . The event will be followed by an exclusive networking reception. \n\n\nRegister Here\nThe event will feature two engaging panel discussions: \nCross-Border Access to Care and Training: \nExplore the barriers children face in accessing specialized oncology care under the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive and discuss practical solutions to bridge these gaps. Learn about the role of EU training initiatives and twinning programs in empowering healthcare professionals and building capacity across Member States. \nCross-Border Access to Research: \nUnderstand the regulatory and logistical obstacles to European clinical trials and innovative treatments\, including CAR T-cell therapy. The discussion will highlight how harmonized frameworks can strengthen collaboration\, reduce disparities\, and advance innovation in pediatric oncology research. \nWhy attend?  \nThis is a unique opportunity to engage and network with EU policymakers\, healthcare professionals\, researchers\, and patient advocates and contribute to meaningful dialogue on how EU’s initiatives\, such as the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive and Beating Cancer Plan\, can ensure equitable access to care and research for children with cancer. \nBackground \nDespite all the advancements in the field\, disparities in access to care and research still exist across Europe\, unjustly affecting young patients’ survival and quality of life. Innovative therapies\, such as CAR T-cell therapy\, remain out of reach for many due to logistical and financial barriers. \nThis event will explore how EU policymakers and healthcare professionals can work together to overcome these challenges and build a future where all children with cancer can access the care and research they need\, regardless of where they live. \nFor queries or further information\, please send an email to: andras.kulja@europarl.europa.eu \, danai.spentzou@europarl.europa.eu \,  sonja.ladenstein@siope.eu \, and rachele.vedovelli@siope.eu . \n\nCheck the Provisional Programme Here

SIOP Europe and CCI Europe will share evidence and perspectives from paediatric oncology professionals\, parents\, and survivors. \nThis year’s edition will showcase the progress made under Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP)\, especially through its Spotlight on Childhood Cancer\, and will also examine how these achievements can be translated into timely and sustainable delivery for children and adolescents up to and after 2030. \nRegister HereProgrammeThe event will support discussions on the European Parliament’s own-initiative report on the EBCP\, currently under preparation. As the EBCP moves into its next implementation phase and future EU cancer policy initiatives are planned beyond 2025\, the event emphasises that childhood cancer must remain a visible priority. Strong political support and practical measures are essential to ensure that all children and young people with cancer in Europe benefit from equally high standards of care\, research\, and survivorship services. \nThe discussion will focus on two core priority areas across the childhood cancer pathway: \n\nEqual access to high-quality care and research\, including access to specialised expertise\, cross-border collaboration\, and innovation for children\, adolescents\, and young adults with cancer\, regardless of where they live in Europe\nSurvivorship and psychosocial care\, with a focus on long-term follow-up care and the sustainability of survivorship programmes for childhood cancer survivors and their families.\n\nBy bringing together policymakers and key stakeholders from across the childhood cancer community and beyond\, the event aims to foster shared understanding and actionable policy directions. The goal is to ensure that progress achieved at EU level through the EBCP translates into lasting\, equitable impact for all children and young people with cancer across Europe. \nRegister Here
