Empowering Young Cancer Survivors: CCI Europe at the YARN General Assembly in Bucharest
Youth cancer advocates from across Europe gathered in Bucharest on 12-13 December, for the recent General Assembly of the Youth Cancer Network (YARN). As the follow-up project to EU-CAYAS-NET (European Network of Youth Cancer Survivors), the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and addressing the long-term needs of childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivors.
The Youth Cancer Network (YARN) General Assembly brought together youth cancer advocates and organisations from across Europe to exchange experiences, share best practices, and strengthen cooperation in support of childhood, adolescent, and young adult (CAYA) cancer survivors.
Childhood Cancer International – Europe (CCI Europe) participated in person, contributing to discussions by highlighting key challenges faced by CAYA survivors across Europe.
CCI Europe emphasised the importance of mental health and psychosocial care, educational continuity, and career development as essential components of long-term survivorship support. During the Assembly, CCI Europe presented concepts, guidelines, and digital tools designed to address long-term psychosocial needs, support flexible schooling and digital learning pathways, and provide tailored career guidance to help young survivors pursue meaningful employment.
The discussions at the General Assembly highlighted the importance of strong collaboration among European survivor networks. Through continued joint efforts, YARN and CCI Europe aim to strengthen support systems, share knowledge, and empower CAYA cancer survivors to thrive beyond their cancer journey.
