Advancing Mental Health in Cancer Care: CCI Europe at the ALTHEA Project General Assembly

CCI Europe took part in the ALTHEA Project General Assembly, held in Milan on 24 – 25 November 2025, with two representatives joining online. The meeting marked an important step forward in advancing psychosocial care as a fundamental part of cancer care for patients, survivors, and families across Europe.

Discussions focused on accelerating the development and piloting of methodologies for systematic psychosocial screening, early risk identification, clear referral pathways, and integrated psychosocial care. These efforts aim to ensure that emotional and psychological support is not optional, but consistently available and effectively implemented across healthcare systems.

  • Key developments highlighted during the General Assembly included:
  • Ongoing development of the ALTHEA mobile app and web platform, expanding access to remote psychological support
  • Continued research activities and the creation of high-quality, evidence-based content
  • Strengthened collaboration with sister EU-funded projects and initiatives, reinforcing a shared European commitment to mental health in cancer care

Through ALTHEA, mental health support is embedded throughout the entire cancer care pathway. Patients and survivors gain access to timely, remote psychological support through accessible digital tools, while healthcare professionals are empowered with resources to recognise emotional distress early and respond effectively.
