Childhood Cancer Research in Focus:

CCI Europe and SIOP Europe Meet EU Research Commissioner 

On 19 September 2025, CCI Europe and SIOP Europe had the privilege of meeting with EU Research Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva to discuss the future of childhood cancer research.

Research and innovation (R&I) is a core pillar of CCI Europe and it is at the heart of CCI Europe’s mission, driving progress to improve outcomes for children and adolescents with cancer.

During the meeting, both sides acknowledged the important advances achieved through the EU’s Cancer Mission in childhood cancer research. At the same time, they looked ahead to the opportunities that remain. One key focus is the integration of paediatric oncology into Comprehensive Cancer Centres. This approach ensures that children can access the same excellence, innovation, and resources as adult patients, paving the way for better care and outcomes.

CCI Europe and SIOP Europe reaffirmed their commitment to working alongside the EU and partners across Europe. Together, they aim to address the unmet needs of children and adolescents with cancer in all future research initiatives.
