Position Statement on Psychosocial Care

Over the past decade, CCI Europe has identified a significant lack of adequate psychosocial care for childhood cancer patients in many European countries, with access varying widely both between and within countries.

Member organizations and professionals in paediatric oncology have highlighted gaps in public funding and challenges of advocating for comprehensive psychosocial care in cancer treatment centres. Despite existing guidelines, these are not widely applied in pediatric cancer care in Europe.

CCI Europe has been advocating for the promotion of psychosocial care at European level, but national and local systems need better frameworks for effective implementation. To support future advocacy work, the CCI Europe Psychosocial Care Pillar has conducted a Europe-wide survey to assess the current state of psychosocial care. The report of this survey you can read here.

Based on this survey, the CCI Europe Psychosocial Pillar has now developed policy recommendations that should lead to equal, comprehensive access to psychosocial support across Europe.
