Ukraine Emergency Update 23.7.2024

July 8th marked one more sad day for the childhood cancer community in Europe with the missile attack on the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv.

The missile attack has destroyed essential infrastructure, in what is the largest Childhood Cancer hospital in Ukraine, treating more than 135 patients in inpatient facilities and more than 360 patients in total.

Because of that, CCI Europe along with our partners are being called to intensify our efforts to help children with cancer in Ukraine. As we speak, CCI Europe and our partners within the SAFER Ukraine initiative are handling the evacuation of children with cancer in hospitals in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. At the same time, while this acute situation is going on, we continue the work we’ve been carrying out within SAFER Ukraine previously. This work includes acting as the liaison between the families and local CCI Europe member organizations, supporting the relocation of patient, providing resources that will help the patients and their families abroad, etc.
